Nestled in the shelter of a low hill protecting it from northern winds, lies the village of Šepulje, situated in the gently undulating Karst plateau. Surrounded by vineyards thriving in fertile, crimson soil, it feels far removed from the hustle of urban life, despite being close to the road connecting Sežana to Štanjel and Nova Gorica.
Only bluebirds sing in the morning chorus, the grapevine leaves rustle in the sunlight, and occasionally a Karst gust whispers its sharp song at the window. Šepulje immediately announces itself with a magnificent collection of Karst barns, adorned with numerous old and new homemade items.
Among them is the Šajna homestead, where we have renovated an old Karst house into a pleasant restaurant. You will tie your soul to Karst ham and other excellent dishes, and quench your thirst with authentic teran. Tired travelers can find refreshment in one of the five double rooms, furnished with antique furniture.
GueSTS can enjoy the delicacies of Karst cuisine alongside the beauty of the surrounding area. Take a walk among the stone homesteads in the village, admire one of the oldest vines on the Karst, or set off to the old Gothic church of St. Anthony on the nearby hill. The neighboring Tomaj is also close by, where the poetry of Srečko Kosovel is preserved in a memorial room. From the hill above the village, you have a beautiful view of the Karst plateau.
Numerous slightly busy side roads invite you to explore the countryside by bike. There are over 360 kilometers of marked routes for cyclists on the Karst, so it's easy to take shorter or longer trips.
